WHAT IS FLORAHUM?

Florahum is the trademark brand that designates a group of products - substrates for the propagation and cultivation of plants.
This is leading brand in the field of agricultural substrates in Bosnia and Herzegovina for more than 20 years!
In addition to its presence on the domestic market, the product group represented by the brand Florahum is successful on the neighboring markets of Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro too.
The manufacturer and owner of the name Florahum is a company KS Commerce d.o.o. Široki Brijeg. Domestic distribution is organized trough company EKO Trade d.o.o. Široki Brijeg.

WHAT IS SUBSTRATE?

In biological terms substrate is the soil on which plants live. It is made of materials that are biotic and abiotic nature. Young plants are seeded or planted in it and carrying out its most sensitive period of life in it.

Today it is difficult to find sufficient quantities of biotic (live) substrate in nature. As a substitute for natural substrates, industrial substrates are produced with all the positive properties of a biotic substrate. The quality control, controlled composition and the uniformity of the composition make manufactured substrates even better then the biotic natural substrates. Additionally, natural substrates may contain toxic materials and elements or be a carrier of pests, diseases or weeds, which is not the case with high-quality manufactured substrates.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TYPES OF SUBSTRATES?

Substrates differ in their physical composition, physical and chemical attributes and purpose. Different types of substrates produced for different purposes have different properties:
- Chemical composition
- Porosity, volume mass
- PH factor
- Content of microelements and salts
- Persistence
- Quality of packaging etc ...

Usually, main ingredient is more or less processed peat or a mixture of one or more types of peat.
The highest quality substrates, in addition to the mixture of natural peat, have other ingredients to regulate acidity, porosity, moisture retention, nutrition, weight ,density and other properties. Ingredients are mixed in precisely defined quantities. Quality of ingredients is controlled and attested. The highest quality substrates are also sterilized with thermal treatment (which is a costly process).

The differences in substrate quality can be huge! Florahum is the result of the desire to create a top-of-the-range substrate which quality surpasses all other brands in the market.

HOW FLORAHUM WAS CREATED?

From the very beginning, top experts in field of soil substrates and flower production are engaged. Mr. Vinko Topić, an engineer who gives a life to the future Florahum substrates has started the production. In year 1993 the collaboration with the Department of Microbiology at the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb, headed by prof. dr. sc. Sulejman Redžepović, was started. The same institution issues the first certificates and gives a good and positive opinion about our products. Since then, cooperation with this respectable scientific institution is developing furthermore.

In 1996, KS Commerce started cooperation with prof. Dr. Elvedin-Edo Hanić, the leading Bosnian-Herzegovinian substrate expert. This has resulted in the first significant expansion of the products range. The whole range of products designed then is still produced today. Since then, KS Commerce has achieved the highest professional standards in production and Florahum products increasing the market share from year to year.

Thanks to application of all legal norms and European standards in control of raw materials, production process and the finished product itself, as well as to collaboration with well established experts and scientific institutions, Florahum products are today known as top-quality products on domestic and neighboring markets.
